Calton Cases Carbon Composite Line

Calton Carbon Composite cases are made by hand, just like we have made all of our cases for the past 23 years, using the same molds and techniques. Each case shell is individually fitted to the instrument and consists of 3 layers of re-enforced carbon fiber and composite materials. The resulting strength to weight ratio makes each of our case shells lighter by 20 – 25% without compromising any of the quality of the Calton fit and finish.
Like any Calton Case – these cases are available in a rainbow of interior and exterior colors and can be further customized as necessary or desired. Click here for the basics.
Please review the FAQ list below and when you are ready to order, just give us a call or email. Thanks again for thinking of Calton Cases – we REALLY appreciate your business.
FAQ List
What does Carbon Composite mean exactly?
We use 3 types of materials, in addition to the resins, to make our Carbon Composite shells for our cases. These are carbon fiber, fiberglass, and composite foam re-enforcement. More than 2/3 of the materials used is our Carbon Composite shell is Carbon Fiber cloth. We use high grade vinlyester resin in our manufacturing process along with our standard gel coat color pigments.
How Much Lighter are Calton Carbon Composite Cases over Calton Deluxe Cases?
Each Carbon Composite shell will weigh 20-25% less when it is de-molded as compared to a Calton Deluxe Fiberglass shell of the same size.
How Much Stronger are Carbon Composite Cases over the Calton Deluxe cases?
We have never actually taken the time to collect empirical data on the strength characteristics of any of our products. We have heard some great stories though.
Our products were originally developed to meet an immediate need – that of a musician – and have evolved from there. This particular evolution involves a new material – Carbon Fiber – but is based on the same sound engineering principles of all of our cases. The “composite schedule” we are using use is over 2/3 Carbon Fiber, resulting in a case shell that is 75-80% of the deluxe weight, but 20-25% stronger.
We have thrown them, jumped on the them, dropped them, tossed them and stood on them – just like we do with our other cases. They don’t behave any differently than any of our other cases at this point – otherwise we would not be offering them.
How much do these cost and what is the lead time?
Here is our new price list for 2010. Like 2009, you can order these cases factory direct or thru one of our dealers. Our lead time is 6 weeks for custom orders but fluctuates – please be sure to discuss this with whoever you place your order.

What colors are available with the Carbon Composite?
You can order ANY of the 18 exterior colors (plus finishes – granite, glitter, metallic, inlays – etc) and any of the 12 interior colors in our plush. We do not offer the naked “carbon fiber” finish.
Are the interiors the same?
Yes – everything about this case is the same as what you know as the Calton Deluxe case – except for the savings in weight and the gain in strength. We have always believed what sets us apart is our fit and finish and attention to detail. It is the same crew building these cases.
Are the exteriors the same?
Yes – we use the same hardware (latches, hinges, d-rings, handle) and rubber sealing system.
How can I order?
Just send an email to sales@caltoncases.com or give us a call (1-506-855-5465) and we can get the process started. Be sure to check our dealer directory. We take Visa or Master Card and can send PAYPAL invoices.
